Owego’s First Friday will take place on Friday, July 6, beginning at 6 p.m. in the historic Village of Owego. First Friday is a time to celebrate our community and share the spirit of Owego with friends and neighbors. The Historic Owego Marketplace (HOM) and its membership are pleased to honor our local veterans by “Celebrating Our Heroes” throughout July.

With generous support from Lockheed Martin, The Tioga County Veterans Association, HOM and its members, the community will be unveiling new memorial flags to be displayed throughout downtown Owego.

HOM invites the community to meet our local heroes during First Friday, where attendees will have an opportunity to learn about several local veteran organizations as you stroll the streets of Owego.

Also in attendance will be representatives from the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team. The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) is a 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to inspire and educate others while enhancing the health and welfare of Wounded Warrior Amputees. The WWAST is comprised of competitive, athletic veterans who have lost limbs while serving their country in the military and war.

First Friday participants are also encouraged to visit The Tioga County History Museum. On display is their exhibit “200 Years Of Serving Our Country.” This exhibit is a comprehensive local representation of uniforms and artifacts from our local service members. Items date from the revolutionary war to modern times. The Museum will be open special hours for First Friday, 6 to 8 p.m., and is an included stop on the First Friday Passport.

The First Friday Passport will be available for pickup at participating locations beginning Thursday, July 5. Many Owego businesses will offer additional discounts and offerings for Veterans throughout this event.

Enjoy food, art, music, tastings and more as our merchants “Celebrate Our Heroes” during Owego’s First Friday!
