Candor’s Independence Day Celebration planned in Candor

Since 1873, Candor has celebrated Independence Day. The American Legion organized it from the parade to the fireworks, to the carnival and all the events in between for many years.

In the past few years, the Legionnaires have passed it along and they decided to leave it for the younger generation to handle. A few brave souls stepped up and took over the planning and executing of a great celebration for the community, and the committee is now comprised of a mix of community members along with the American Legion Family.

Festivities begin on Wednesday, July 4, with a 10 a.m. parade (theme is Summer Past Times) up Main Street. There is still time to enter a float, and everyone is welcome.

Calling all color guards, marching bands, VFW, American Legion, and Auxiliary units; if you would like to participate in the July 4th parade, please call Gwen Benners at (607) 372-8977.
