New Youth Volunteer Corps benefits the Owego Evergreen Cemetery

The Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation, Inc. has announced a new initiative to support Owego area youth volunteers performing important community service at the historic Owego Evergreen Cemetery. 

For the past five years, the foundation has conducted and sponsored service projects at the Cemetery on national days of service including Make a Difference Day, Family Volunteer Day and Join Hands Day. Youth of all ages, supervised by adult volunteers, have planted flowers and bushes, installed fencing, spread mulch, raked and bagged leaves, placed planters, cleared ditches, picked up and cleaned plots, and generally improved the Cemetery grounds. 

The new Youth Volunteer Corps Initiative calls upon youth in the local community, churches, scouts, school and civic groups to initiate small volunteer projects at the Cemetery in collaboration with the Village of Owego Cemetery Committee and Public Works, the Foundation, and their adult mentors, family members and friends. 

The Owego Evergreen Cemetery is a beautiful community owned public space which requires increased community care and service by youth and adults. The Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation, through its Board of Directors, has created an Owego Evergreen Cemetery Volunteer Service Fund, which will offer small grants of up to $250 to youth initiated and youth involved volunteer service project activities at the Cemetery.

These grants are available to individual Scout and Troop Scout volunteer projects, Owego school club and team volunteer projects, church and community youth group volunteer projects and other volunteer projects, which substantially involve youth.
