Zion Lutheran School is closing its doors

Zion Lutheran School is closing its doorsAfter 30 years of operation the Zion Lutheran School is closing due to lower enrollment rates and the changing demographics of the area. The school and church will be holding a dinner on June 9 to commemorate those affected by the school in all of its years.

Zion Lutheran School is closing its doorsChanging demographics in the area have forced the Zion Lutheran Church to close its school due to low enrollment rates. The church will be hosting a commemorative dinner on Saturday, June 9, at 5 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church.

The closing is because of the fewer children in the community as well as some parents being unable to afford the private-school expenses. The church is also unable to introduce a preschool to the area due to state regulations, Rev. Timmothy Heath Jr. said.

Families who have attended or served Zion Lutheran School are invited to the dinner, which will celebrate teachers, staff and volunteers.

“For over 30 years we have been proud to provide Tioga and the surrounding counties with a school where children could learn and grow in a safe Christian environment,” said Heath.

One of the only specialized environments as well, being that Zion Lutheran is the only Lutheran school in Tioga County.

Although the school’s doors are closing, the church is still looking forward to serving the community the best way they can through their religious and community-outreach services.
