Elks Lodge to celebrate 150 years of serving the community

The Owego Elks Lodge #1039 will be celebrating 150 years of service to the nation at a Cocktail Party on Friday, April 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. They invite all Elk members of the Lodge to come together to recognize one another for their service to the community and the nation.

The celebration is casual and will be held at the Lodge and Ballroom located at 223 Front St. in Owego. The Exalted Ruler will deliver brief remarks at 6:30 p.m.

They are known as the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America. All lodges across the country are joining together in 2018 to celebrate their rich history of charity, justice and brotherly love.

The rich tradition of supporting others through charitable works began in 1868, founded originally as a social club in New York City. Today, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, they are one of the leading fraternal orders in the United States and boast a national membership of nearly one million members.

Elk members bring more than donations to the community. Although their spirit of giving is generous, their commitment to each other as members is fraternal. They are a place where neighbors come together, families share meals, and children grow up. Their focus is to meet the needs of the transforming community.

The Elks invest in programs that support healthy families, meet the needs of today’s veterans, send students to college, and improve the quality of life where Elks live and work.

The Elks’ National Foundation, established in 1928, has contributed $453.9 million towards charitable projects nationwide.

The Owego Elks Lodge #1039 was chartered in 1906. They take pride in their deep roots in the community. Their focus in Tioga County is helping families in need, encouraging strong family values, and providing support to many local charities.

The Owego Elks Community Charitable Fund relies on the generosity of its members as well as the successes of their fundraisers, dinners and parties. Most of their events are open to the public.

The Lodge also provides affordable banquet and meeting options for everyone in the community. Their kitchen, ballroom, and bar are frequently the home for local groups to host events and fundraisers.

They welcome new members and inquiries regarding their facilities. You can call the Lodge at (607) 687-1039 or speak to a member to learn more.
