Owego Hose Teams, Inc. is hosting the Central New York Firemen’s Association spring meeting on Saturday, April 14, at the American Legion Post #401 on Front Street in Owego. The public is invited to watch area firefighters compete in firematics including Water Ball, Bucket Brigade, and Wye Race at 2 p.m. in front of the Legion followed by a concert with the Spelunkers.

Founded in 1893 by Owego’s own Frank M. Baker, the Central association supports and serves the volunteer fire service of Central New York, its firefighters and the public they protect through education, legislation, communication, recognition and community service. The association builds camaraderie among its members and forms a positive partnership with related organizations.

Area fire representatives from the 20-county Central association will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to discuss pertinent fire and emergency services related issues.

Following the meeting will be firematics, where firefighters test their skills at 2 p.m. A local band, The Spelunkers, will round out the day’s activities performing at the Legion post at 5 p.m. Both the firematic competitions and concert are open to the public.

Incorporated as a not for profit in 2015, Owego Hose Teams, Inc. have been competing in firematics since 1951. The year 2016 year marked their 65th anniversary season.

The Owego team is the reigning Central New York champion and will defend their title at the July Central association convention in Hammondsport, New York.
