Three young men, originally from Tioga County, and who have known each other since first grade at Thomas J. Watson Elementary School in Endicott, N.Y., attend Medical School at SUNY Upstate Medical University together. On March 16, they celebrated a rite of passage known as “Match Day,” the day when Medical Students find out where they will continue in their selected medical professions as residents.

These men were part of the class that graduated from Union-Endicott Schools in 2010.

Thomas Kania, one of the three, matched into a surgical residency at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine in Staten Island, N.Y.; Gregory Faughnan matched into Family Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.; and Luke Dombert matched into a surgical residency at Guthrie in Sayre, Pa.

As part of the “Match Day” celebration, the students produce a video that makes fun of all their hard work. The video can be viewed on YouTube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXZ5qomLRy4.

Another of their classmates from Thomas J. Watson Elementary, Matthew Gervais, attends Medical School at Penn State Hershey College of Medicine and matched into an internal medicine residency at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont.
