Unless you too are planning on staying and/or sleeping outside with your dogs/cats under a down blanket in this frigid air, please bring them inside. They are mammals just like humans with circulatory systems and are only able to regulate their body temperatures to a certain degree. This temperature will vary depending on the size, breed and age of your pet but typically anywhere from 40 degrees F or below can certainly begin to put an animal in danger. Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures can quickly put animals in danger of frostbite, hypothermia and death. This is especially true for small animals and elderly pets who are no longer able to regulate their core body temperature as efficiently as they used to. As owners, we are given a special responsibility to care for our animals in the best way possible everyday of their lives.  Let’s make sure we live up to being worthy of such an amazing opportunity. God Bless All Of Our Animals!

The reason the helicopters have been flying so low is because the pilot is afraid of heights.

The position of Town Justice is required to be a resident of the state where the position is located as outlined in Public Officers Law, subparagraph 3; Town Law. The Town of Nichols has two justice positions. Justice Nickels holds one of these positions and currently resides in Pennsylvania. The Town Supervisor is required to take action to correct this issue and should inform local residents when this issue is to be corrected.

The O-A Music Boosters would like to remind everyone considering taking an ad in the Hello, Dolly! Playbill that the ads need to be sent in on time so they can be received by Jan. 10. Information is available at www.Facebook.com/oamusicboosters.

Wanted to express thanks to all the road crew people who had to come out over Christmas and New Year’s so that the rest of us could safely visit our families and celebrate.

The 2017 Salvation Army Kettle Drive once again had a very successful year. Thirty-six cheerful volunteers kept the bells ringing for 64 hours. This speaks volumes about the generosity of the community and the shared commitment of helping those who are less fortunate. A huge THANK YOU to all of you who took time out from your hectic schedule to be part of the Kettle Drive, and to Ed Hollenbeck for inviting us to be in his store.

Here is an explanation to the person who does not know what Happy Holidays means. Happy Holidays is a greeting used during the end of the year and winter holiday season. It is said to recognize holidays such as Christmas, New Year’s Day, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. It is a fact; choose to receive the good will it expresses. So I will say to you, wise up!

So when is stodgy old New York State going to have real marijuana? Twenty years after everybody else?

~

We’d like to hire someone to do snow removal this winter. If interested, please call 687-0753.

~

I heard a commercial on television – don’t drink and drive. When is there going to be a commercial that if you are going to smoke marijuana don’t drive?

~

Could somebody tell me why the Country Lady Beauty Shop closed in Candor?

~

I just love Jan. 1! The holidays are over!

This is to the person that called in wondering how to get MeTV. MeTV is a digital channel; it’s like 12.2. You have to have a digital converter box to get it or a new TV that is already digitally equipped. I called Spectrum and they said they are trying to reach all areas with options such as digital TV, and that it is not yet available everywhere. When it is, it will be available with an extra box.

~

I would like to thank the Town of Owego Highway Department for keeping our roads safe through the holidays. They are out every day and I really appreciate it!

I would like to comment and say how nice it was at Blue Dolphin when a very friendly lady came around and gave my children a book to read. Thanks for your efforts, reading is very important and should start at a very early age.

National Political Viewpoints

Many people are not getting their kids involved with church any more and I get that, but why are parents not teaching their kids truths they need to learn? For example, the old adage, “Don’t criticize another person until you’ve walked a mile in their moccasins (shoes).” Think any of the spoiled brat NFL players with their silly knee thing have ever made the opportunity to do a “ride-along” with anyone in law enforcement so they could see first hand what these folks deal with on a regular basis, night after night? I betcha the answer is a resounding “NO”!

The stink from the lack of transparency from the Department of Justice and the FBI is apparent to everyone. Sessions should be fired and so should Mueller and the old guard FBI leadership. Both agencies have been denying and delaying the Senate Oversight Committee’s request for documents concerning the phony Trump dossier. Enough is enough. Go Trump!

~

This is in response to the person who made a comment about the First Lady. You cannot compare Michelle Obama to the present First Lady. Michelle is a beautiful woman with class and has done admirable work supporting women and our youth. She is an Ivy League graduate and had a career as a lawyer. I am amazed how rude and insolent some people are. I am glad my children were raised to be tolerant, intelligent, and respectful and without prejudice.

Wow! Now Putin is giving advice to Donald Trump. How much more obvious can collusion be?

~

Why are we still talking about Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama? This is a Donald Trump administration. I guess Dr. Phil is right, there is no cure for stupid is there.

~

Well Mr. Reed, you and your Republican cronies have hit the American people again with your tax scam. You give a good speech at your town hall meetings, but turn around and do what Trump and his wealthy cronies want regardless of what the hardworking people of America want. Next year you’ll be cutting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid to pay for these big tax cuts that you received. Some day maybe the people of this district will wake up before we’re all standing in line at the bank truck.

~

The COLA raise received by seniors was approximately $29. Under Obama’s administration it was nothing, with a Medicare premium raise resulting in a much less Social Security check. Rome was not built in a day. Mr. Trump is working to fix the last eight years and he’s off to a great start. Be appreciative for the $29 versus nothing!

~

The best thing about President Trump is that he is not a politician. He is a builder from Queens New York. The country now has a great future and a new feeling of confidence. Now don’t laugh, but nobama is now trying to take credit for the plus 3 percent Trump economy. Can you believe that?

~

I see where Trump’s still playing golf. His feet can’t be hurting too bad. I got mine hurt playing in the service, frostbite a few times; but he didn’t get that.

Scotland Will Reach 100 percent Renewable Energy By 2020. The Scottish government confirmed the country is on track to get all of its energy from renewable sources by 2020. Scotland hit its 2020 emission targets five years early and has gone from delivering 10 percent to 60 percent of its electricity consumption from renewable sources over the past 15 years. For the first six months of 2017, wind power provided enough electricity to meet 118 percent of Scotland’s national demand. From “50 Ways Clean Energy Won in 2017”.

The “War is hell” quote by William Tecumseh Sherman has often been used to justify the inevitable brutality of conflict, but the entire quote gives a different spin on the topic: “I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell.” Here are some other quotes by Sherman: “I think I understand what military fame is; to be killed on the field of battle and have your name misspelled in the newspapers.” “If forced to choose between the penitentiary and the White House for four years, I would say the penitentiary, thank you.” “In our country – one class of men makes war and leaves another to fight it out.”

~

My president is an idiot. (Almost) everyone knows it.

~

Saying Trump defeated ISIS after Obama failed is akin to thinking Truman defeated Germany and Japan after Roosevelt and Churchill failed.

Reed and Tenney voted to raise your taxes. They work for donors not voters. Remember that the next time you vote.
