The Art of Michael Husted

The Art of Michael Husted

Beginning in December, with an opening reception on Dec. 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Tioga Arts Council located at 179 Front St. in Owego, The Art of Michael Husted will be on display. Husted’s exhibit will remain on display until Dec. 22.

Husted’s art focuses around a time of happiness and tranquility, and two weeks of calm weather during the Winter solstice.

Husted wrote, “In these times that are anything but tranquil, I find that my creative effort for the most part produces work that is upbeat and optimistic. I’m not oblivious to the turmoil in our country and around the world, but it somehow does not infect my work. Perhaps I am at heart an optimist. Or maybe making art is for me an escape to a more idyllic place.”

He continued, “It may simply be that I am able to appreciate that my life is good. I’ve been married to the same woman for 36 years, my children are grown and doing well, I have friends, I like my job and I have a really cool studio. Whatever the case, I seem disinclined to create gloomy art. For me, these are halcyon days.”

“Or we can go with the second definition and hope for two weeks of calm weather around the Solstice. For this show I’ve gathered recent paintings and sculpture,” Husted added.
