Can the sheep on Route 38 get a covered shelter?

~

It’s all well and good to build above the floodplain; while water may not get into the building, water surrounds the property and you can’t get in or out for possibly days.

~

I was happy to learn the Tioga County Planning Board rejected the plan to put the 40-unit apartment in a flood zone in Turtle Town. I just hope that the Village Zoning Board of Appeals uses likewise common sense and thinks a floodplain is no place to put a residential apartment unit.

The people at the Automotive place in Apalachin, on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Main Street should pull their cars back from the road a little. It makes it very difficult to pull out of the intersection when you can’t see if anything is coming up the road.

~

This is to the person who responded to my comment and didn’t have my number, saying he was looking for the person with the lawnmower parts. My name is Stan and I am looking for lawnmower parts and lawnmowers, my number is (607) 797-6657 or (607) 727-3572.

The homes on Marshland Road extension would like their road paved like Chestnut Road, Chestnut Ridge, Pine Knoll Road and Marshland Road. We have been driving on holes, railroad tracks, and patches for eight years plus and we are getting ponds in front of our mailboxes.

~

I would like to say thank you to the Town of Owego Highway Department for the job they did on Maple Lane.

~

For the reader who wants to know why funding is being cut for special needs kids while being increased for drug addicts, well that’s because many politicians and those with elite power have children who are addicts. Just go and sit in any hospital emergency room for a while. The left wing losers who control the fake news media did the same thing for AIDS. Billions of tax dollars were spent on AIDS treatment but not for heart disease, arthritis, Alzheimer’s and cancer. Those with the most influence get the dollars.

~

Once again, I call in after being awakened by sirens and fire trucks and ambulances. Must be the girls volleyball team has been victorious again. Good for you girls! Go Owego!

~

This is in reference to all the concerned Owego Village residents regarding drugs and low-income housing. Guess what folks? The drugs are already here!

~

I say one rehab chance for addicts. If they can’t turn their lives around, they are on their own. Some people do not want to change and we should not keep throwing good money after bad. Senator Akshar keeps fighting for more addict money. What about our special needs population? Again, priorities are out of whack!

~

You probably won’t print this; nevertheless, every word is true. We apparently have a bunch of 7th grade bullies running the village of Owego, searched at great expense to the taxpayers, they put two proposals up for a vote, and both were overwhelmingly defeated. They then went for the next “weakest” link. Ah shucks, they found they had to have a public hearing but no worries though, they totally ignored the 95 percent of those that cared deeply and took the time to speak up against them. What is the point of holding a public hearing if the voice of the people involved is ignored? There are some major issues in Owego concerning health and public safety but these folks are using their power on what is indicated by votes and public opinion as being non-issues. Election is in March, be there!

So Judge Jeanine Pirro was doing 119 mph in our fair town of Nichols? Failing mother or not, that is vagrant disregard for the law. I hope the judge in charge of her case makes an example of her. Do you know how unsafe that is, especially for the trooper trying to catch up to her? You know what can happen at 119 mph? I hope they make an example of her! Thank you for letting me voice my opinion and I hope it’s the opinion of the judge in charge.

The staff at Candor Food Pantry work so hard to help distribute food every week. Everyone who uses their services should thank them for their hard work and dedication, especially at this time of year.

Several weeks ago I washed my car at the Apalachin automatic car wash and I lost my ribbon off of the back of my car. When I went back to look for it there was a gentleman who needed to get his car washed and he was waiting for the doors to open to let him in. I walked up to his window and asked if he would let me in first to take a look around to look for that ribbon. Bless his heart. He did that for me. I went in but there was so much mud and debris I couldn’t find it. I went back the next morning first thing and that ribbon was on the ground outside the car wash. That gentleman went in there and looked for that for me. I appreciate that so much. Sir, I don’t know your name, you know who you are and I want to say thank you so much!

I am surprised the Waterman Center people have not been speaking out about a huge apartment complex and parking lot that will drain directly into Brick Pond and create noise and light to degrade that habitat. Do they still own Brick Pond?

~

The Village of Owego Board of Trustees voted to placate a few residents who live in the historic district and ignored the vast majority who live there and strongly value historic preservation. They abolished the Owego Historic Preservation Commission (OHPC), whose members have served as volunteers to help residents know and keep historic architectural integrity. The village board treated OHPC commissioners extremely shabbily by drafting a new law without talking to them and then telling them to get two unnamed board members to resign and the board may agree to keep OHPC.

~

“My house!” Sorry, but the buildings in the Historic District are 100 to 200 years old. They were here long before you acquired them. They will be here long after you are gone. You are only a temporary slice of their time. Be respectful of their past. Be thoughtful for their future. Same for the character of the Village. It had meaning to those who came before us. It has meaning to most of us now. It will have meaning to those yet to come. Be considerate.

The Carantouan Greenway has selected Saturday March 17, at 10 a.m. for its Cloverleaf 4K Trail Run or Walk. We will be awarding at random to all participants gym memberships, race entrance registrations, birdhouses, raspberry and strawberry jams as well as other healthy products. March 17 is St. Paddy’s Day and we hope that many of you can join us in welcoming spring.

~

In regards to the article, “Village directs OHPC to review personnel”, the statement in that article “a public hearing on the issue had residents divided” is a bit general. The owners of the properties in the historic district are not divided. We don’t need the restrictions of the Commission. I purchased my home on Main Street 30 years ago because, No. 1 it was in Owego and, No. 2 it is a beautiful home. The upkeep and maintenance on these properties is expensive but we do it because we are proud of our homes. However, we do need to make upgrades to make them as energy-efficient as possible.

~

Me thinks me smells Carpetbaggers. The proposed Turtletown apartment building is the product of subsidized social engineering of free grant money and an entity that knows how to feed at the public trough. Owego has found no need for this. While the location may qualify, that is a matter of convenience for the builder; it is not for the proposed residents. There are much better “walk-about” sites available and which should be used. There exists potential environmental threat to the indigenous, migratory, and perhaps threatened species of Brick Pond. This site could also be a treasure trove of historical indigenous America artifacts. The 2+4 Construction Co. should be concerned that some environmentalist whacko doesn’t pull an Obama on them and thwart their efforts with years of Federal and State court battles. Free government money is poison, only corrupts and, provides profits for those who know how to exploit the system.

~

They dug down 10-feet and found no water. Imagine that; try it again in the spring. How about the village digging out the whole lot 10-feet, and then using it as an overflow from the Brick Pond? That would take care of the flooding problem in Turtle Town.

I am writing for the elderly person whose hearing aide quit. Check with the Lions Club for a hearing aide donation. I believe they take old ones. And, anyone who has lost a loved one who wore a hearing aide should consider donating them.

I am currently a graduate-level student at Keuka College finishing up with my Occupational Therapy degree. My partner and I have been gathering research on Bill A7772. Bill A7772 is a newly introduced law in New York State that aims to amend the current social service law related to providing rehabilitative services through the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). The current legislation provides 20 visits per year for physical, speech, and occupational therapy visits under CMS unless the patient has a traumatic brain injury and/or developmental disabilities (who may receive more than 20 visits yearly). If the amendment of this bill is passed, speech, physical, and occupational therapists will be able to submit a letter of medical necessity to CMS to receive extended coverage past the 20 visits currently allowed. Bill A7772 has been introduced into the Assembly and is being decided on at the state level. It was introduced in May of 2017 and has currently not had any votes or hearings. Since it has not moved far, it will need to be reintroduced next year. In order for this bill to gain awareness, the people need to advocate getting this bill introduced in the Senate and passed through both houses. The passing of this bill would have a large impact on many individuals who may currently have to forego services or pay out of pocket for continued coverage. Now is the time to contact your local New York State senate and assembly members and advocate for extended coverage under Medicaid.

National and Political Viewpoints

Welcome to the new Republican world order. More shootings up, every week there are multiple shootings across the country. Now our Republican led congress is passing huge tax cuts for the corporations, the billionaire and the millionaires, while giving the middle class and the poor people a very slight tax break for a couple years; and now I just read, their taxes are actually going to be going up in a few years because the tax break stays out. Isn’t that nice to hear? Besides that our illustrious president is going to save millions himself on his tax cut. How can this be allowed to happen while everybody sits back and gets starved out? You know what? I hope Mueller hurries up and gets his job and locks that orange skinned man up because he is good for nothing!

Did you look at that picture real good of Al Franken assaulting that female? If you look good you will see he is smiling for the camera, he knows he’s being photographed and she is pretending to be asleep. He does not have his hand on her chest. Probably won’t print this one either. And then now, as I said, we’re bringing on the big guys. Former President Bush? What the hell is this and how far can these women go? They are being paid big bucks. You betcha!

~

Judge Moore is getting the bums rush by the fake news media; meanwhile the fake news is trying to give Al Franken a pass! Likewise, Bob Menendez, whose escapades with Dominican Republic minors is well documented, is also being helped to sweep details under the fake news rug. Any calls by the Democrat news for these two to resign, don’t bet on it!

~

So all during her campaign all Hillary kept saying was, whoever loses should accept the outcome and move on. Why can’t she? She just continues to be in the limelight, to blame everybody and everything under the sun. Why she’s worse than a child! Nobody wants to hear from her anymore. Why doesn’t she understand?

~

Can any of the Hillary Clinton supporters please explain to me why Hillary still thinks she was supposed to win that election? Why can’t she move on and leave us Trump supporters alone? She continues to doubt the election results. She herself said, “You need to accept the consequences,” when she was debating Donald Trump. She just can’t seem to do that.

~

Are there any gluten free people out there? I’ve got a couple of questions. One of them is can you use gluten free flour instead of the regular flour? I’m new at this and I don’t know what I’m doing.

~

This is for the phony Republican who thinks that those who pay zero taxes should benefit from a, get this, “new tax plan?” This befuddled Democrat’s logic is something to behold. You pay zero but you want something back? Give me a break you buffoon!

~

In the spirit of bipartisanship, President Trump today magnanimously pardoned Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, Bill Clinton and the rest of the Washington turkeys. Happy Thanksgiving!

~

119 mph and Judge Jeanine said she didn’t realize it? Really? 119 mph is such an incredible tremendous threat to the safety of all our people. 119 mph is criminal!

~

For last week’s caller concerned about cutting funding for the special needs population. Your school property tax increases are directly tied to the increasing need for funding the special needs students. It is increasing at a substantial rate.
