Thanks to a grant from the Floyd Hooker Foundation and the work of several volunteers, a new playground has been installed at the Tioga County Boys & Girls Club in Owego and is ready for use.
According to Steve May, who serves on the board at the club, the work to install the playground began in May and is now available for use at the club.
Katie Tracy, who serves as the club’s director, added that the hours have not been set yet, but you can call the club at (607) 687-0690 to find out if the playground is open.
And many volunteers assisted with the project and offered services.
According to May, Wagner lumber donated the chips and Jon Boland donated labor. Chase Foster, from Forse Excavation, also provided services.
Last Monday, volunteers, and those involved in the project, gathered to recognize the playground’s opening as well as to highlight the other upgrades to the club.
According to Tracy, the club has recently installed a new roadway to the backfield, new lights for the lacrosse and soccer field, and a new sidewalk and outside drainage.
Ken Henson, also from the club, stated that the new sidewalk would allow the club to offer snacks to those in the field in the future as the sidewalk runs past the kitchen.
Cheryl May, who was at last Monday’s playground opening, stated, “When you think of the club, you think of the fifties and sixties.”
“There have been a lot of upgrades over the past three years,” she added.
