The annual salmon run only lasts for a handful of weeks from late September through late October, so a group of volunteers from Candor’s United Methodist Church decided to hold a fundraiser through the sale of fishing flies.

Using donated materials, the volunteers have placed about 1,500 salmon / steelhead flies on display and for sale at the Community Shop, Lawler’s, Home Central and Lock n Load. One hundred percent of the money collected goes towards funding the church’s mission to Haiti.

According to Dan Seymour, from Candor, pricing is comparable to or less than what’s available in stores or online.

He added, “The fishing reports from sporting goods stores in the Pulaski area are telling us that this year’s run of fish is better than any in recent memory. That’s due to the significant amount of rainfall this year, which has kept the water temperature low and the rate of flow high – both of which are functions of how many fish go upriver to spawn. Hundreds of fish are in the river now and will be for the next few weeks. It’s a great opportunity to latch onto something in the twenty-pound range.”

To learn more, visit one of the mentioned stores and look for the display!
