Grants awarded by the Tioga County Senior Citizens Foundation

Twenty-six nonprofits in Tioga County have been awarded funds totaling $61,450 by Tioga County Senior Citizens Foundation (TCSCF). Annual distributions are made to organizations that serve the needs and interests of senior citizens in Tioga County, N.Y. 

Since its formation in 1982, TCSCF has awarded just under $2 million to benefit Tioga County’s seniors. A volunteer board directs the activities of the charitable organization.

Receiving distributions in this year’s competitive grant process were Candor Community Services – toward Tai Chi health program, Catholic Charities Tompkins/Tioga Outreach – emergency assistance to the elderly (such as food, emergency medicine, heat/light, emergency transport, home/auto repairs), Community Care Network of Nichols (CCNN) – insurance and volunteer support, First Presbyterian Society in Nichols – towards a handicap entrance, Mercy House of the Southern Tier Inc. – special bed for resident room, Northern Tioga Neighbors Network (NTNN) – volunteer support and program development, Resource Center of Candor – holiday foods for pantry, Tioga County Open Door Mission – emergency assistance to the elderly, Tioga County Rural Ministry –emergency assistance to the elderly to include materials for ramps and home repairs, Tioga Opportunities, Inc. Department of Aging – assistance for volunteer drivers in Meals on Wheels program, Department of Community Services – food purchase for food pantries and soup kitchens, Department of Housing – materials for home repair for elderly (Group Workcamps), and the VFW Post 1371 – food for meal to honor senior veterans from all branches of service.

In addition, the libraries and senior citizen clubs of Tioga County that made application also received grants.

Non-profits may request a grant application by visiting the website or by writing to TCSCF at P.O. Box 117, Owego, N.Y. 13827. Completed applications for the annual distribution must be received by June 1, 2018. Distributions are made in September.
