On Sept. 8, 2017, Tioga County Court Judge Gerald Keene sentenced Jordan T. Stevens, age 22 of 149 Newman Rd. in Candor, N.Y. to 20 years in state prison, with five years post-release supervision for his unjustified and unprovoked attempted murder of Justin Wilcox on May 22, 2016.

According to the Tioga County District Attorney’s office, the defendant attacked Wilcox in the parking lot of the Methodist Church at the intersection of Fairfield Road and Newman Road in the Town of Candor after Wilcox was in the process of giving him a ride home.

The District Attorney’s office further detailed what happened on May 22, 2016, stating, in a release, that the defendant told the police that he wanted to kill Wilcox because “his life wasn’t worth anything.”

The release went on to outline that Stevens first strangled Wilcox until he was unconscious. He then dragged him out of his own car, assaulted him by jumping up and down on his head while he was lying on the gravel parking lot, and then, after commandeering Wilcox’s car, drove over him.

The release continued to explain that Stevens drove out of the parking lot and around the block, and then back over Wilcox a second time because he did not believe he had killed him the first time. He then put Wilcox’s sneakers on his feet and fled the scene in Wilcox’s car. Approximately an hour later he returned to the church parking lot and punched Wilcox in the head. The defendant then drove to his residence at 149 Newman Rd., where he threw clothes of Wilcox behind the garage and drove the car up into a neighboring field. Stevens was apprehended at his home.

Besides Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, the defendant was also indicted on and convicted of Assault in the First Degree, Strangulation in the Second Degree, Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, two counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence and one count of Petit Larceny.

He received concurrent prison and jail sentences on those other six counts of the indictment.

The case was investigated by the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office with Sr. Investigator Wayne Moulton of the Criminal Investigation Division supervising.
