On Sept. 12, voters headed to the polls in the Primary Election. By 11 p.m., the Tioga County Board of Elections announced the unofficial results.

In the contested race for Owego Town Supervisor, Don Castellucci won the Republican Party designation, defeating Jonathan Marks by 51 votes. Ballots counted were 859 – Marks with 403 votes and Castellucci, Jr. with 454. There were two write-ins.

Winning the Republican Primary designation in other contested races were Joseph W. Fravel with 105 votes. Fravel defeated Michael E. Myers for Town of Barton Justice in the Primary Election. Myers had 83 votes.

In Berkshire, and running for Superintendent of Highways, George A. Hoffmier, Jr. pulled ahead with 62 votes; Karl J. Spoonhower had 55.

In the Town of Candor, Patricia M. Reichert, with 162 votes, and George R. Williams, with 181 votes, won the Republican Party designation in the Primary Election. Matthew Crowe, who also ran, had 100 votes and there were five write-ins.

Also in the Town of Candor, William A. Strosahl, Jr., running for Town of Candor Supervisor in the Primary Election, defeated Robert Riggs by 14 votes. Strosahl had 129 votes and Riggs had 115. There was one write-in.

In Richford, Kenneth W. Miller, with 63 votes, and Steven P. Kotula, with 74 votes, won the Primary Election for Town Council. Roberta Holcomb had 55 votes and there were two write-ins.

For Richford Superintendent of Highways, Michael F. Hunt earned the Republican Party designation in the Primary Election with 61 votes. Timothy Ceurter, who also ran, had 13 votes; Joseph Gorsline had seven votes, and Harrison Marsh had 38 votes.

There were no contested primary elections in the Towns of Newark Valley, Nichols, Spencer or Tioga.

The General Election follows on Nov. 7.
