Play Ball! Familiar words heard in the spring season, but heard again by a welcoming and excited crowd at Hyde Park in Owego on the evening of Sept. 8. A historic night for Owego Little League and the Fall Ball program, lights were turned on for the first time.

Members of Owego Little League and guests gathered together on Sept. 8 to turn on the stadium lights at Raftis Field, one of five fields located at Hyde Park which will have lights installed for evening play. Grants for the project were

Scott Rollison, president of the Owego Little League, shared during a ceremony prior to the opening pitch, “This is a testament to all of you who helped build this league, so thank you. This is a project that has been a long time coming.”

The Voice of the Owego Little League, Jim Raftis, Sr., presented homage to the grand old veteran of the diamond, Nick Raftis, and officially turned on the lights on the field.

Attending the ceremony were several past Owego Little League presidents, representatives from the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Floyd Hooker Foundation and Fannie Hyde Trust, Global Industrial Services, Plexicomm, Owego Apalachin School District, Village and Town of Owego officials, Umpire Jim Medovich, and Senator Fred Akshar, among others.
