On Aug. 17, 2017, at or about 8:51 p.m., Owego Police responded to the Railroad Crossing at Main Street and John Street when a vehicle driven by Ming K. Liao, age 70 of Owego, N.Y., was struck by a Norfolk Southern eastbound train.
The Owego Police stated that upon investigating the incident, Liao drove his 2017 Subaru Forester around the closed railroad crossing gates in an attempt to cross the train tracks.
Police reported that a Norfolk Southern eastbound train struck Liao’s vehicle.
Liao sustained minor injuries from the impact with the train and the vehicle’s airbag deployment. Liao was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Police stated that the incident is under investigation and charges are pending.
