Krispy Kreme fundraiser to support OFA Boys Basketball trip to Atlanta

In November of 2017, the Owego Free Academy (OFA) Boys Varsity Basketball team will be embarking on a season-opening excursion to Atlanta. There, they will be participating in the first annual Craig Sager Memorial Basketball Tournament. In order to fund the trip, a Krispy Kreme fundraiser is now under way.

Craig Sager is the former NBA announcer and reporter who recently died from Leukemia. Sager was a beloved figure in both the Atlanta area and throughout the nation. OFA Basketball looks forward to honoring his legacy.

With currently four different Cancer Organizations on board (as well as Foot Locker and Nike) this tournament aims to bring more awareness to cancer, cancer treatment, and the organizations available to serve. All proceeds will go to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society of Atlanta; however, there are also plans for a blood drive and a mass appeal for donations to the national Bone Marrow Registry.

Owego coach Chris Evans stated, “This trip isn’t only about basketball; it’s about an educational opportunity that for some of our kids will be life-changing. Some of our student athletes have never been out of New York. This is an opportunity to not only become an ambassador in the fight against cancer, but to also learn a lot about each other and themselves. We want to thank this amazing community for their generous support so far.”

If you are interested in purchasing Krispy Kreme, the sale will run now through Aug. 21. Delivery will be on Saturday Aug. 26. Contact Jeff Hamed at (607) 644-4949, Laura Sage at (607) 972-1685, or Laura Wasyln at (607) 341-0794 to place your order.
