Kids Night at the Farmers Market in Owego

On Thursday, Aug. 10 from 4 to 7 p.m., the Farmers Market on the Front Street Deck in Owego will have special events for kids and for all. There will be music by Marion Tewksbury and Friends, a retro-folk rock group with musicians playing the djembe, Autoharp, and percussion with strong vocals and harmonies. 

The Farmers Market will have a rubber ducky game for kids. The game is intended to show how to keep our rivers clean so our ducks and wildlife have a home that is pollutant free. And there will be fun prizes.

WaterFromRain.org lists many things we can do as a community to help keep the water that we bathe in, drink, and swim in as clean as possible. Storm water accounts for over 65 percent of pollution in our water and it gets into our rivers, lakes and streams every time it rains.  

There will also be the “Enviroscape”, an amazing way to demonstrate how storm water run off gets into our rivers and lakes. There will be information for adults and games for kids.

Learn about caterpillars, butterflies, and planting flowers to attract them. Did you know more caterpillars in your yard could lead to more fireflies? 

Do you plant lots of showy flowers so you can see colorful wings fluttering about your yard? Well, gardening for butterflies and moths is more than planting nectar sources for adults. Learn how you can assist them in all stages of their lifecycle as well as distinguish them from pests so that all of us can enjoy these beautiful creatures in the future. Learn specific things you can do to help Monarchs and what a Woolly Bear caterpillar turns into. There will be activities for kids, coloring sheets, butterfly word find and more.

As always, the Thursday Night Farmers Market has great, local produce from farmers, food served by Owego restaurants and brew from the Farmhouse Brewery. Bring the whole family and enjoy an evening of great food, music and fun.
