Waverly, N.Y. based Friends with Benny’s will compete at the Battle of the Bands competition at the Tioga County Fair on Friday, Aug. 4 starting at 6 p.m. Fan-based votes will determine the winner of a $1,000 prize.

Grab your lawn chairs or get your grandstand seats early for a new event at the Tioga County Fair, Battle of the Bands, which goes live on Friday, Aug. 4 starting at 6 p.m.

Four bands are slated to play various genres of music, including classic rock, hard rock, blues and funk, metal and groove metal, and maybe even a little country, and will compete to win a $1,000 grand prize at the end of the evening. Bands previously submitted demos to enter the contest.

A unique aspect of the battle, no panel of judges will select the winner at the event. Instead, fan-based judging with votes from spectators will determine the winner.

Event organizer, Bill Carrigg, who has been a part of Tioga County Fair planning for several years, explained that Battle of the Bands was developed by the Fair Board as a way to excite the community to come back to the fair, along with putting a spotlight on talented musicians from our area.

Fair-goers will receive five tickets upon entry to the grandstands with a $5 grandstand admission fee, with each ticket good for one vote.

From funk to folk, rock to reggae, along with blues, soul, hip hop, oldies and jazz, the trio Friends with Benny’s will offer original selections and cover tunes that cross over into every music genre.

A thrash/groove metal band, Threatpoint, a four-member band, plays remnants of classic rock, power metal, hard rock and thrash metal, and pulls influences from the rock and metal spectrum.

Carrigg commented, “We’ve received an out-pouring of support from other individuals and communities outside of Tioga County, so people in Tioga County are encouraged to come out and support this event at the Fair.”
