Become a trainer for ‘Six Steps to Better Balance’

The Department of Aging at Tioga Opportunities, Inc. will be hosting a “Train the Trainer” session for the “Six Steps to Better Balance” program in August. This is an effective Falls Prevention class designed for those working with caregivers or older adults, such as Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, RNs, Home Health Care professionals, and staff at senior centers. Once certified, each presentation of the program to participants typically takes one and a half hours and can be offered anywhere.

The training session will be held on Friday, Aug. 18 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Countryside Community Center located at 9 Sheldon Guile Blvd. in Owego.  Once the class is completed, instructors are certified for three years.

The “early bird” registration rate is $210 (prior to July 27); the regular rate is $249. All participants in the “Train the Trainer” session will receive a copy of “How to Prevent Falls: Better Balance, Independence, and Energy in 6 Simple Steps” and a “Stretching in Bed” guide.
