Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers announces $49,100 in scholarships awarded

The Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers (CFTT) is pleased to announce the 2017 scholarship recipients. The Community Foundation currently administers funds that specifically provide scholarships to students in Bradford, Potter, Sullivan and Tioga Counties in Pennsylvania and Tioga County, New York. 

Community Foundation Scholarships can be established by individual donors, corporations, and are often in honor or in memory of a loved one. 

Awards were as follows.

The Donald and Larene Ayres Scholarship, in the amount of $4,700, was awarded to Brandon J. Butters from Canton Area High School. Butters will be attending Millersville University.

The Troy Lions Club “Huck” Scholarship, in the amount of $1,500, was awarded to Rebecca Case from Troy Area High School. Case will be attending Penn State University, State College.

The Florence Bennett Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, was awarded to Julia Edwards from Wyalusing High School. Edwards will be attending West Chester University.

The Dorothy Kemp Leonard Scholarship, in the amount of $4,000, was awarded to Derrik T. Holton from Canton Area High School. Holton will be attending Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The Towanda Musical Society scholarship, in the amount of $500, was awarded to Tyler Sheets from Towanda High School. Sheets will be attending the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

The Victor and Carla Ross Scholarship, in the amount of $1,600, or $400 per year for four years, was awarded to Lauryn E. Watkins from Canton Area High School. Watkins will be attending Penn State, State College.

The Rockman’s Tuxedo Shop – George and Babe Tymoski Scholarship, in the amount of $500, was awarded to Matthew Williams from Sayre High School. Williams will be attending St. Bonaventure.

In Potter County, the Tomb Family Scholarship, in the amount of $100, was awarded to Jenna Buck from Northern Potter High School. Buck will be attending Alfred State College.

The Ruth Agar Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $450, was awarded to Erica Hanes from Northern Potter High School. Hanes will be attending Mansfield University.

Also receiving the Ruth Agar Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $450, was Tucker Kosa from Northern Potter High School. Kosa will be attending Alfred State College.

Receiving the Tomb Family Scholarship, in the amount of $100, was Mikylah Lathrop from Northern Potter High School. Lathrop will be attending Alfred State College.

Receiving the Northern Potter Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, was Tory McCutcheon from Northern Potter High School. McCutcheon will be attending Hiram College.

The Gerald F. Duffee, Sr. Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, was awarded to Alyson Rotello from Austin Area High School. Rotello will be attending St. Francis University.

The Patrick W. Ryan Creative Writing and English Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, was awarded to Shania Nicole Soler from Coudersport High School. Soler will be attending the University of Maine.

The Darlene J. Sitler Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, was awarded to Ellis Mae Sprow from Northern Potter High School. Sprow will be attending St. Bonaventure University. Sprow was also awarded the Rose Marie Tubbs Scholarship in the amount of $800.

In Sullivan County, Ruth Ann Green was awarded the Stefana “Stevie” Shoemaker Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Green attended Sullivan County High School and will be attending college at Bloomsburg University.

The David A DeWire Scholarship, in the amount of $500 was awarded to Maranna Nitcznski from Sullivan County High School. Nitcznski will be attending Mansfield University.

In Tioga County, Pennsylvania, the Kyle B. Lenhardt Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Melody Benner from Wellsboro High School. Benner will be attending Messiah College.

The Dr. Harry S. Williams Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $1,100 was awarded to Brittany Boyce from Williamson High School. Boyce will attend Elmira College.

The Alan B. Carr Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Jarrett K. Good from Cowanesque High School. Good will attend Alfred State University.

The Dr. Harry S. Williams Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $1,100 was awarded to Paige Swartz from Cowanesque High School. Swartz will attend the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

In Tioga County, N.Y., the Katherine Kerrigan Scholarship, in the amount of $2,000 was awarded to Angelina Barnhart from Waverly High School. Barnhart will be attending SUNY Geneseo.

Also receiving the Katherine Kerrigan Scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, was Cali Park from Waverly High School. Park will be attending Mansfield University.

Rubina Tracy also received the Katherine Kerrigan Scholarship, in the amount of $2,000. Tracy is from Waverly High School and will be attending Corning Community College.

The Donald and Linda Jayne Wrestling Scholarship, in the amount of $500, was awarded to Kamren Curtis from Waverly High School. Curtis will be attending Corning Community College.

The Alice Walker Cooper Family Scholarship, in the amount of $3,400, was awarded to Makayla Dodge from Waverly High School. Dodge will be attending Medaille College.

Also receiving the Alice Walker Cooper Family Scholarship, in the amount of $3,400, was Taylor Lloyd from Waverly High School. Lloyd will attend Corning Community College.

Kristin Whitley, from Waverly High School, also received the Alice Walker Cooper Family Scholarship in the amount of $3,400. Whitley will attend Alfred State College.

The Katherine Kerrigan Scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, was awarded to Katlin Hager from Waverly High School. Hager will be attending Hartwick College.

The Finkle Rosenberg Scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, was awarded to Samantha Knop from Owego Free Academy. Knop will be attending SUNY Broome.

The Bill Davis Scholarship, in the amount of $2,500, was awarded to Zachary Krassin from Owego Free Academy. Krassin will attend West Virginia University.

Receiving the Elizabeth Alamo Nursing Scholarship, in the amount of $500, was Desirrae Miller from Waverly High School. Miller will attend Alfred State College.

Founded in 2003, the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers serves five counties – Bradford, Potter, Sullivan and Tioga counties in Pennsylvania and Tioga County, New York. 

The Foundation is committed to building philanthropic resources that will sustain healthy and vital communities now and into the future. The Foundation currently manages over 90 funds valued at over $5 million dollars and has awarded over $850,000 in grants and scholarships since inception, positively impacting hundreds of lives in the region.
