The annual Seymour Maltese Fishing Derby was took place on Saturday, June 17, and was held by the Spencer-Candor Lions Club. Over 70 children, ages three to 14 from the Spencer-Van Etten and Candor School District participated in this event.

Throughout the morning, the participants proudly filed up to the judging table with live fish to be measured. Prizes were awarded to each child through a lottery drawing and bigger prizes (trophy, fishing poles and tackle boxes) were awarded to the top fishermen in three age groups and four categories.

Participants were also given a ticket for a free slice of pizza from Parkview Pizzeria. The organizers stated that it was wonderful to see kids, parents, and adults interacting throughout the morning and connecting with nature.
