As a final farewell to 164 Owego Free Academy (OFA) graduating seniors, the Apalachin Elementary School (AES) student body and faculty welcomed the soon-to-be graduates to a special tribute at their 401 Pennsylvania Ave. location.
Accompanied by mood-boosting music like Pharrell Williams’ song, “Happy,” students and teachers clapped and danced prior to the OFA seniors’ arrival.
Then, OFA seniors, dressed in red and blue caps and gowns, were “clapped out” by AES students and faculty outside on the sidewalks after they departed four buses, and then again inside the hallways of the school.
Hallways were decorated with yellow stars on the floors,
while red and blue streamers and balloons hung from the walls and ceilings. Elementary students held up hand-made posters with OFA seniors’ names, and teachers hung or held onto posters of soon-to-graduate students who were their former elementary students.
A creative escort followed by a soloist bagpiper led the OFA seniors through the AES hallways. And of course, lots of clapping and high-fives were shared. Parents, grandparents, guardians and other family members were also present to watch the parade of graduating seniors.
The 2017 graduation ceremony took place on June 24.
