Tioga Women Lead announces event, ‘Authentic Leadership’

Tioga Women Lead (TWL) will hold its third educational and networking leadership event for Tioga County women on April 25, at The Club at Shepard Hills in Waverly.

Christina Rex, managing partner of Rex Design Concepts and Patented Inventor, will lead the program for the April event. In 2008, Rex had a nighttime dream about a different type of garden. Over the next few years, she and her husband turned that dream into a business that manufactures Living LedgeTM Vertical Garden Container and other products.

Rex’s experience has given her insight into the challenges of finding balance between her work and daily life. She will deliver a program on “Authentic Leadership” which will explore these challenges and offer insights on addressing all aspects of life authentically by being mindful and genuine.

“Our entire human existence and experience is created from a place that cannot be seen. We can’t look outward or rely on others for growth; true growth will only come from within,” said Rex

As with past TWL events, the “Authentic Leadership” program includes light refreshments, a chance to network with other Tioga County women from a variety of backgrounds and professions, and the “You Rock” Award presentation.

At each event, TWL presents a local woman leader with the “You Rock” Award to acknowledge an important and unique achievement. The most recent “You Rock” Award winner was nurse and community advocate, Sandy McCoy-Cleveland. McCoy-Cleveland received the “You Rock” Award as acknowledgment for over 50 years in the nursing field and for innovating health and social care in the Tioga County community by co-founding the Community Care Network of Nichols (CCNN) with Nurse Practitioner Shirley Tiffany. Over the years, CCNN has created a network of trained, caring, compassionate volunteers. This neighbors-helping-neighbors organization serves hundreds of Tioga County residents by identifying needs that are not being met and finding medical, social, or community resources to address them. Some of the services they offer are transportation to medical appointments, friendly visits, and help navigating health care and social care information.

In the most poignant part of the program, McCoy-Cleveland delivered an inspiring speech about the value of community service, the strength of women leaders working together, and the challenges she faced as a woman in the health care field.

TWL is a group of professional, local, women leaders who are committed to advancing women’s leadership in Tioga County through empowerment, education, and experience. TWL recognizes that women already play a vital leadership role in government, corporations, independent businesses, community organizations, schools and families in Tioga County and sees the potential to encourage more women, including our youth, to become local leaders.
