TCNN Member Focus: CCE Tioga

Cornell Cooperative Extension Tioga County (CCE Tioga) is a 501C3 not for profit organization established in 1913 that provides experience and researched-based educational programs and information. Under guidance from the USDA and Cornell University, CCE Tioga extends the educational resources of Cornell and other institutions to foster economic, social, and environmental improvements and to further objectives in the fields of agriculture, community and economic vitality, environment and energy, nutrition and healthy families, and youth development.

CCE Tioga is managed by a volunteer board of directors made up of local residents, which hires an Executive Director who oversees all programs, hired staff and volunteers.

Their current programs include the following.

Agriculture – They help farmers of all types with business development, production, marketing, and management, as well as educate children and adults about agriculture and the local food system.

4-H Youth Development – They provide opportunities for youth to have fun, learn life skills, and work with caring adults through the 4-H program, as well as Reality Check and Youth Employment.

Family Development – They help parents gain knowledge and build skills for nurturing their children at our Family Resources Centers, as well as various parenting programs.

Eat Smart NY – They teach individuals about better nutrition, food budgeting and physical activity.

Master Gardener – They educate children and adults about gardening and environmentally friendly practices.

Community Development – They help support leadership development and positive change, including Broome-Tioga Tobacco Free program in Tioga County, as well as help supporting the Tioga Neighbors Helping Neighbors and the Tioga County Transportation Committee.

The Tioga County Non-Profit Network (TCNN) is a grassroots effort to bring together leaders from non-profit organizations to address common interests and to better serve the people of Tioga County. TCNN typically meets every other month on the fourth Wednesday from noon to 1:30 p.m.
