Candor’s St. Baldrick’s Shave-a-Thon and 5K planned for April 2

Candor’s annual St. Baldrick’s Shave-a-Thon and 5K Run / Walk is happening on Sunday, April 2. This is the seventh year that the Candor Emergency Squad has hosted the event to raise money for childhood cancer research.

“We are looking for shavees – men, women and children who want to become heroes to a kid with cancer by standing in solidarity with them as they have their heads shaved,” said Kelly Starkweather, event organizer.

She added, “Last year our little community was able to raise more than $35,600. Our goal for this year is $40,000.”

The day kicks off with a 5K Run / Walk that begins at the Candor ambulance garage and meanders down the streets in the village. Start time is 9:30 a.m. and runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate. You may register right up until the time of the event.

The main shaving event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Candor Fire Station. In addition to raffles, food, music and family-fun activities, there may even be a “knighting” of long-time shavees.

You may register as a shavee and to participate in the 5K online at the Candor St. Baldrick’s webpage, www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/4251/2017.
