On March 22, 2017, Maurice Durant, age 31 of Waverly, N.Y., was found guilty following a jury trial in the Tioga County Court of two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, class D felonies; two counts of Strangulation in the Second Degree, class D felonies; two counts of Assault in the Third Degree, class A misdemeanors; and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, class A misdemeanors.

According to the Tioga County District Attorney’s office, the domestic violence charges related to his assault of a two year old child on or about the middle of September 2015, and again on or about Dec. 16, 2015; and his assault and strangulation of a woman on or about Dec. 9, 2015 and again on April 2, 2016.

The defendant will be sentenced on June 2, 2017 in the Tioga County Court.

This case was investigated by the Waverly Police Department.
