Governor to lift I-84 travel ban and tractor trailer ban on I-84; other bans remain in effect

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that both the travel ban and the tractor trailer ban on I-84 will be lifted tonight at 8 p.m. A temporary tractor trailer ban remains in effect on I-81, I-86/Route 17, I-87 from Albany to the Canadian border, I-88 and on all of the New York State Thruway. The full travel ban for all of Broome County announced earlier today also remains in effect. More information is available here.

With snow and sleet continuing to fall in many regions across the state, roadways remain hazardous and New Yorkers should avoid any unnecessary travel. Travel conditions will likely remain dangerous throughout tonight and into tomorrow morning, and motorists are encouraged to drive carefully during the morning commute.

“The severe weather has begun to subside in the Mid-Hudson Valley region, allowing us to safely reopen I-84 to travelers,” Governor Cuomo said. “I urge New Yorkers to continue to exercise caution and head out only if necessary – many parts of the state remain under storm warnings and it is vital that our first responders and emergency crews can clear the roads effectively and efficiently.”

  • I-81
