Owego Fallen Firefighters Memorial Golf tournament date set

The Fifth Annual Owego Fallen Firefighters Memorial Golf tournament will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Pheasant Hill Country Club, Waits Road in Owego. 

The tournament, the annual fundraiser for the Fallen Firefighters Scholarship and the Owego Fire Department (OFD) Training Facility, will be held rain or shine and in captain and crew format. The venue will open at 8 a.m. for driving range warm-ups and the tournament will kick off at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Each participant will receive a goody bag and the opportunity to buy skins, 50/50 and additional raffle tickets. 

There will be a driving contest with the opportunity to win a custom-fit driver, hole-in-one contests and more. The tournament will conclude with a chicken barbeque and an award ceremony with prizes awarded to the team with the best score, longest drive and closest to the pin for men and women.

This tournament is the only fundraising golf tournament that directly supports the Village of Owego Fire Department. The Owego Fallen Firefighters Memorial Golf tournament supports the department’s scholarship, which is provided each year to an Owego Free Academy senior who is planning to attend college to pursue a career in EMS/Fire.

A portion of the proceeds will also go to support maintenance and expansion activities at the OFD Training facility. The training facility, located on McMaster Street, is currently used for medical and firefighter training classes. The department is raising money through this tournament to erect a training tower on the McMaster Street site to allow firefighters to train in a live-burn environment.
