Tioga residents to vote on proposed Capital Project; meetings planned

The Tioga Central School District will bring a $7.5 million capital project, as part of a larger $8.3M project, to vote on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the Tioga Middle School in the Gymnasium (using the back entrance). Voting hours are scheduled from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Two public information meetings are being held prior to the vote, with the first on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m., and the second on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the high school cafeteria.

The scope of the work has been prioritized to improve the safety, security, and the health of everyone who uses this important public facility, especially the students. The project will preserve prior investments, but also make necessary site repairs as well as address outdated systems too costly to maintain. Careful financial planning allows the prioritized project list to be realized with little impact to taxpayers.

Proposed project details will be discussed in greater length during the Jan. 25 and Feb. 8 public information meetings, and will include a question and answer session.

The Tioga Middle / High School is located at 27 Fifth Ave. in Tioga Center.

  1. How does the Smart School Bond Act of $750,000 get repaid? That is not dealt with in the Fact Sheet. Is this not a part of the school budget?
