State Police investigate fatal crash on I-81 in Kirkwood

The New York State Police are continuing their investigation into a fatal one-car crash on Interstate 81 in the town of Kirkwood. 

On Friday, Jan. 13 at approximately 2:43 p.m., troopers responded to a crash on Interstate 81 just south of Exit 1 after a vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. 

Witnesses stated that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and passed a vehicle on the left shoulder. According to police, the vehicle lost control and went off the east side of the road and struck a tree. 

The operator, Gregory C. Persaud, age 19 of Morris Plains, N.J., was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital with severe injuries and was pronounced deceased earlier this afternoon.

The New York State Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident to call (607) 775-1241.
