Spencer man sentenced to five years in prison on heroin related charges

On Jan. 6, 2017, Richard M. Lawrence, age 43, was sentenced in Tioga County court to five years in state prison and two years post release supervision after pleading guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class B felony; Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, a class C felony; and two counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree, both class A misdemeanors.

The indictment was the result of a joint investigation by the New York State Police and the Waverly Police Department into the sale of heroin, locally.

According to the district attorney’s office, the incident occurred on March 15, 2016 when Lawrence was found to be in possession of heroin with the intent to sell it, and packaging material and scales for packaging and weighing the heroin.

As part of his plea agreement, Lawrence also forfeited the $4,983.00 cash found in his possession at the time of his arrest.
