Winter Crop Meeting planned for January 20

Cornell Cooperative Extension’s South Central New York Area Dairy and Field Crops Team will present its annual Winter Crop Meeting on Friday, Jan. 20 at the Ramada Inn located at 2310 N. Triphammer Rd. in Ithaca, N.Y.  This meeting provides a wintertime gathering and update of current topics for area dairy and field crop farmers and a delicious hot buffet lunch.

The day starts at 9 a.m. with a Trade Show of agricultural and crop supply businesses. The program begins at 10:15 a.m.  

This meeting will feature the following Speakers and Topics.

Margaret Smith, Plant Breeding, Cornell University: Genetically Engineered Crops: Top-Notch Designer Genes or the Gene(ie) that got out of the bottle.

Donald Specker, Agronommist, Pioneer: An Agronomy Buffet: Lessons from the Drought, Low Lignin Alfalfa, Nitrogen Trials in Corn, Herbicide Reistant Marestail, and Dicamba Tolerant Soybeans.

Joe Lawrence, Forage Specialist, PRO-DAIRY: Cornell University Corn Silage Trial Results and Decoding the Alphabet Soup of Corn Silage Traits.

Adam Robertson, Seedway: Cover Crops: How? When? Why?

Karl Czymmek, Nutrient Management Specialist, PRO-DAIRY: Recommendations and Pending Regulations for Winter Manure Spreading.
