On Thursday, Dec. 22, more than 600 students from Owego Free Academy (OFA) gathered in the main lobby and surrounding upper bridges of the school to sing Christmas songs together, many of them sporting ugly sweaters on the final day of the school’s holiday-themed week.
OFA Principal Heath Georgia shared, “The holiday week is just fun, and it builds community here.”
Other themed days included Monday’s “flannel day,” “hat day” on Tuesday, and Wednesday’s “red and green day.”
In the spotlight for the holiday sing-along were the OFA Choir and Chamber singers. Three Owego students recently achieved a national-level vocalist accomplishment.
More than 2,400 students from around the United States auditioned and submitted recordings in September. Three Owego students will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota in March 2017 for rehearsals and a special performance with the National Honor Choir.
The Owego students include 11th grade OFA student Nic Hulbert (Tenor 2), 9th grade OFA student Rachel Raftis (Alto), and 8th grade Middle School student Justin Brown (Baritone).
Following the holiday sing-along, students were treated to an annual pizza party in the OFA cafeteria.
