Led by the stalwart defensive back line of Kaden Hover, Addison Young, Gavin Mercik and Darren Starkweather, the Hiawatha Hammerheads made an undefeated run through the field at the annual Marlboro Soccer Club Tournament to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project at Hudson Valley Sportsdome in Milton, N.Y. last Sunday.
The Hammerheads were unbeaten in four matches versus other Under-13 teams from throughout Eastern New York, allowing just one goal during the entire tournament.
The Player of the Match was selected after each contest by the coach of the opposing team. Four Hammerheads players – Jacob Banks, Eric Jewson, Jace Riegel and Noah Fowler – were each chosen to receive that award.
The Hammerheads team is part of the Hiawatha Soccer Association of Owego and includes players from Apalachin, Candor, Owego and Binghamton. Bob Tiddick and Jim Franz coach the team.
