On Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the Tioga Opportunities Senior Center, Louise Woodburn was awarded the 2016 President’s Call To Service Award for her more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service to the Greater Owego community during the course of her lifetime.

The Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation, Inc., in conjunction with Tioga Opportunities, honored Louise at the Tuesday luncheon before a room full of friends and neighbors including Eudora Shuler, Mary Jane Brown, Bob Bassett and Dean Smith.

Volunteer service has been a central part of Louise’s life since her early married days with the area Republican Women’s Committee and later through her years of volunteering with the Tioga County Council on the Arts, the Owego VFW Post, and the Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels home delivery program.

Christine Shaver, Director of the Department of Aging at Tioga Opportunities, Inc. gave a personal thank you to Louise for her many dedicated years of delivering meals to seniors.

The President’s Call To Service Award certificate and pin were presented to Louise, and those gathered also wished her a very happy 89th birthday, which took place on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
