Newark Valley bids farewell to Florida bound Rutans

St. John’s Deacon Warren and his wife, Marion Rutan, are pictured at the end of the table during a recent coffee hour reception.

St. John’s Deacon Warren and his wife, Marion Rutan, are moving now to Haines City, Fla., near Orlando, after 37 years in Newark Valley. They’ve been married 63 years, are the parents of six children, have nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A coffee hour reception held on Sunday, Oct. 23 at St. John’s Parish Hall honored the well-known, well-liked, and respected couple for their years of dedicated community and church service.

Deacon Warren assists Blessed Trinity / Saint Patrick’s Parochial Vicar Father Peter Van Lieshout with the 11:15 a.m. Sunday Mass.

Patrick’s Parochial Vicar Father Peter Van Lieshout with the 11:15 a.m. Sunday Mass. He read the Gospel, gave an emotional farewell homily of sincere appreciation, elevated the chalice at consecration and distributed communion, ending 23 years as a Deacon in the Diocese of Rochester.

Warren is a 1947 graduate of Newark Valley High School. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and 27 years with IBM.

Marion retired as a Cornell Cooperative Extension Agent for Tioga County after many years of dedicated service.

    Marion and Warren will leave a large shadow with their departure. Their footprint is significant and we will miss humor and advice
