Tioga Women Lead (TWL), a group of local professional women leaders, will be holding their first educational and networking leadership event on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Pheasant Hill Country Club located at 2771 Waits Rd. in Owego, N.Y.

TWL focuses to educate, support and advance Tioga County women leaders, and in turn encourage and inspire more women, including youth, to set sights on becoming local leaders.

Women in Tioga County play a leadership role in government, corporations, independent businesses, organizations and schools, among others, as well as in families. TWL shares a belief that smart and strong leadership is essential to the overall success of a community and will offer the tools to assist women further in reaching their personal goals.

The featured topic at the Oct. 26 event, “Leading with Integrity,” will be delivered by Penny Bartlow, owner of PLB Design, LLC and creator of Global Leadership Now, and a TWL Council member.

Global Leadership Now is a leadership program for future female leaders, which empowers women to be a change maker for themselves and in the community.

The TWL Council includes Martha Sauerbrey, Tioga County Legislative chair; LeeAnn Tinney, Tioga County Economic Development and Planning director; Gwen Kania, Tioga County Chamber president; Penny Bartlow, owner of PKB Design, LLC and creator of Global Leadership Now; Jennifer Welch, owner of the Tom Ash Agency Insurance; Pam Pringle, office administrator at Endwell Chiropractic; and Rebecca Maffei, Tioga County Tourism director.

Kania commented, “Leadership is about believing that there is something worthwhile in the endeavors of others and then helping them to generate enthusiasm.”

Civic engagement and economic development are key elements to grow and sustain a healthy community, and as Tinney explained, “Tioga Women Lead seeks to encourage and nurture ‘social capital,’ which will enhance our economic development energies.”

TWL welcomes women from all backgrounds, professions and age groups.  Since their Facebook page launch in September, TWL has reached out to over 300 Tioga County women.

“I am proud and excited to be part of this amazing group of women,” shared Sauerbrey.

“We see that there is a lot of interest in the topic of women’s leadership,” shared Maffei, and added, “On the Facebook page, discussions have started, as well as the sharing of experiences and inspirational stories.”

Prior registration was necessary to secure a seat at the event, which runs from 7:30 until 9 a.m. Doors open at 7 a.m.
