American Legion convention is coming to Binghamton

The American Legion Family, Department of New York will be in Binghamton, N.Y. for their annual Convention planned for July 13-16. The dignitary group will be comprised of Legion Commander James Yermas, American Legion Auxiliary President Jan Mahoney, and Sons of the American Legion Detachment Commander Joseph Santacroce, along with their vice officers.

The Convention is held annually in various cities across New York. The American Legion is celebrating their 98th anniversary, the American Legion Auxiliary their 96th anniversary, and for the Sons of the American Legion it is their 42nd anniversary.

New York State is comprised of 62 counties and well over 1,000 of their members will be in attendance. The three-day convention will celebrate the achievements of many members and honor our military, our veterans and their families, and our communities.

Meetings across three area hotels will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton for the Auxiliary, the Holiday Inn for the Legion, and the Quality Inn for the Sons.  Guest speakers will cover programs for Americanism, Children and Youth, Veterans Affairs / Rehabilitation, Education and Community Service, to mention just a few.

On Friday night, July 15, there will be a parade that will form on Main Street at Post 80 in Binghamton, and it will end at the Holiday Inn. The parade will be comprised of many Posts, Units, Color Guards, and Districts throughout the state of New York with a step off at 6 p.m.
