Drug Take Back a reported success

On Saturday April 30, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Tioga County Council on Addiction and Substance Abuse, the Owego Police Department, and CVS Pharmacy in Owego, participated in the semi-annual National Drug Take Back Initiative sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration. A total of 200 pounds of unused and unwanted medications were turned in for destruction.

On May 2, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office and the Waverly Police Department transported a total of 530 pounds of unused and unwanted medications to Syracuse for destruction. This total weight included the 200 pounds, which was collected at the Drug Take Back events, as well as, 330 pounds that had been turned in to the Medication Drop Boxes that are located at the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office and the Waverly Police Department.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Waverly Police Department, the Owego Police Department, the Tioga County Council on Addiction and Substance Abuse and CVS Pharmacy for their participation in these programs. They would also like to thank the citizens of Tioga County for helping to get these medications destroyed for public health and public safety purposes.
