On Monday April 4, the Village board meeting in Owego opened to a full house with standing room only. First on the agenda was the annual meeting, in which Steven May, the new mayor, as well as the new trustees were sworn into office.

Elected into office during the recent election was May and trustees Ed Morton, Earl Hartman and Michael Phelps. Rod Marchewka, who ran uncontested, was re-elected as clerk / treasurer.

After a round of a round of applause, the meeting was underway. The Mayor kept the meeting moving along and gave out new appointments to board members. The meeting then continued on with general housekeeping as well as public comments. The mayor fielded the comments with ease and kept things moving along.

One main highlight of the meeting was a presentation by Renovous Solar PPA. They went over the general information of how the town municipalities could save money by using solar power versus regular electric. According to the company, the village could save a great deal of money over a 25-year span. The board, as well as community members, was able to ask questions. They will be meeting at a later date to discuss this more in depth.

The meeting concluded with additional public comments and then adjourned into executive session.

The Village of Owego Board Meetings are held at 20 Elm St. on the first and third Mondays of the month at 7 p.m. For more information, visit the Village of Owego website at www.villageofowego.com.
