William H. ‘Bill’ Zimmer, 65, of Newark Valley passed away suddenly on Jan. 5, 2016 due to a heart illness. Bill was born July 16, 1950. He is survived by his wife, Dawn R. Zimmer; daughters: Holly (Zimmer) Kehrer of Powell, Ohio, Cathy Zimmer of Sandusky, Ohio, Virginia (Martin) Hallett of Candor, N.Y.; grandchildren: Vincent, Abigail, Alison, Gabe, Andrew, Jack, Ryan (Chelsea), Travis (Tessa), Tyler, and Mikayla: great granddaughters: Adilynn and Mia; brothers: Thomas (Sandy) Zimmer of Arvada, Colo., David Zimmer of Whitney Point and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents Leslie R. “Barney” Zimmer and Betty (Hinrichsen) Cole; brother, James Zimmer and son, Chris Starke. Bill attended Newark Valley High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War Era.

He was a hardworking man who adored his family and his many friends (especially when he held his cookouts). Bill loved the outdoors and very much enjoyed working on his farm in his earlier years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and helping his special friends, Ray, Deb and Carter Kalwara at the Ringneck Pheasant Preserve in Candor.

At Bill’s request there were no services. However, his family invited family and friends to celebrate Bill’s life by sharing a drink in his name on Jan. 15 at Rte. 38 Bar and Grill.
