Constance C. Hughes, 83.

Constance C. Hughes, 83, of Newark Valley, passed away peacefully on Jan. 8, 2016.

Connie is survived by her loving sister Joan (Ray) Shaver. She was a beloved aunt to Lorraine (Jim) Gridley, Norman (Sharon) Shaver, Carol Shaver, Phillip (Robin) Shaver, David (Melanie) Entzminger, Steven (Maryann) Entzminger, Karen (Steve) Thomas, Laura (Tony) Hartz, Paula Fink, Kathy Madden and many great nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Celine Hughes and brother-in-law Paul Entzminger. Connie was predeceased by her parents Leonard and Barbara (Baker) Hughes, brother, Charles Hughes and sister, Esther Entzminger.

Following graduation from Newark Valley High School, in 1950, Connie completed business courses at Ridley Lowell Business School in Binghamton. Her adventurous, independent spirit and desire to see the world, led her to Japan, Libya and Morocco where she worked as a civilian with the U.S. Army and Air Force. During this time she was able to travel and make many close friends. Her caring and loving nature led her to several orphanages where she volunteered and established a rapport with both staff and residents. Upon her return home, she was employed for a time at Cornell University and retired from IBM Owego following 24 years of dedicated service.

In her own quiet way, Connie was able to accomplish great effects. She cared for her mother for many years, cherished her friends and family, especially her nieces and nephews, and made forever memories with them all!

Family and friends were invited to call at the MacPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley on Sunday, Jan. 10.  A Funeral Service and celebration of Connie’s Life followed, with her cousin Pastor Paul Jewell, officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.

Those wishing are asked to kindly consider directing memorials to a Charity of Their Choice in loving memory of Constance C. Hughes. Memories may also be shared in Connie’s Guest Book at macphersonfh.com.
