On Jan. 14, 2016, at about 10:20 a.m., New York State Police at Binghamton arrested Richard E. Vanleuven, 23, of Johnson City, N.Y. for the misdemeanors of attempted petit larceny, criminal mischief 4th and criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th.

This arrest occurred after troopers responded to a possible shoplifting complaint at the Radio Shack store on Upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango.

An investigation determined that Richard E. Vanleuven had attempted to steal a pair of Powerbeats wireless headphones, valued at $200, after breaking a plastic security latch and then dropping them on the floor.  He was also found to unlawfully possess a small amount of crack cocaine.

Richard E. Vanleuven was arraigned in the Town of Chenango court and was remanded to the Broome County jail in lieu of a $500 cash bail or $1,500 property bond. His next court date is in the Town of Chenango is on Feb. 2, 2016.
