Friday ‘Write-ins’ at the Coburn Free Library in November

Are you planning to write the Great American Novel this November? If so, the Coburn Free Library in Owego has your back!

Writing a novel in a month isn’t crazy – it’s a phenomenon! National Novel Writing Month (or NaNoWriMo for short) gives writers everywhere the opportunity to finally get that unwritten novel written. You start on Nov. 1 and commit to churning out approximately 1,660 words a day, seven days a week, until Nov. 30; and before the Thanksgiving leftovers are gone, you’ll have the first draft of a 50,000-word novel ready for editing. It’s okay if you start a few days late; you’ll just have to write a little more each day. Go to www.nanowrimo.org for details.

But how does the Coburn Free Library fit in? Since writing can be a lonely endeavor, and you’ll need moral support to write a whole novel in a month, the Coburn Free Library will set aside a “writing table” from 1 to 5 p.m. on the first three Fridays of November – Nov. 6, 13 and 20.

Bring your laptops (or notebooks if you’re old school) and enjoy the company of fellow novelists. Best of all, three staff members who are also published writers will be available on those Fridays to offer advice and encouragement. Remember, though, that the library will be closed on the Friday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 27), so you’ll have to write at home that day.

Charge your laptops, sharpen your pencils, and get your thinking caps on – it’s time for NaNoWriMo!
