Tuff McBride will return to the track

After a great opening night in May, Champion Speedway in Owego has had to cancel its last two events due to rainouts. The good news is both races have been rescheduled.

The Omar Lightner Legends night is set for Aug. 1 and the Hank Bassett New York State Championship will now be held Aug. 15. Aug. 29 will stay as the Larry and Kathy McBride Memorial event and the US Open National Championships are on for Sept. 5 and 6.

There is now an exciting probability that former World Champion, Billy Hamill, will be at Champion Speedway in October for the season ending Fall Brawl Classic as well, which usually takes place in early October on a Sunday afternoon. The track is waiting to confirm which Sunday at a later date, depending on results of another scheduling conflict.

Legends night on Aug. 1 should be a great treat for the local speedway motorcycle community; many former stars will be in attendance and many have agreed to make track returns.

Former track Champion George Lazorbeam Lazor will return to the track.

Shockingly former crowd favorite and US Open Champion, Stormin Norman Robinson, has been practicing and will be on a bike, possibly even in the regular program. Former track Champions George Lazorbeam Lazor and Fast Frank Watson are likely to compete and hopefully six-time US Open Champ, Warren Diem, will be able to make it.

Multi-time New York State Champion, Tuff McBride, who has missed this season with injury thus far, is slated to ride along with other past greats like Joey Sephton, Rick Close, Mike Robinson, Tom Burge, John Lewis and more.

Former Heroes like Dan Moonbeam Fallon and Hurricane Hank Bassett will be on hand. Champion Speedway Promoter, Jason Bonsignore, expects the best field of the year for the regular racing program that evening, also.

On Aug. 1, gates open at 5 p.m. and races blast off at 7 p.m. More information can be found at www.eastcoastspeedway.com or by calling (585) 739-9612.
