Fatal vehicle roll over on State Route 17 leaves one dead, four injured

On July 12, 2015, State Police at Binghamton responded to a report of a one-car roll over, fatal motor vehicle accident on State Route 17 west bound in the area of exit 80.

Investigation revealed that Fareeha Nausheen, age 36 of Monticello New York, was operating a 1999 Honda minivan in a westerly direction on State Route 17 in a construction zone, when she lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle skidded across the open westbound lane of traffic and continued into the lane of traffic under construction, causing the vehicle to roll over several times.

Rear seat passenger, Muktar Began, age 77 of Monticello New York, was ejected and was struck by the vehicle prior to it coming to rest in the center median. Muktar Began was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A three-year-old rear seat passenger was also ejected from the vehicle and sustained minor injury.

Broome County Coroner Kelly Storrs responded to the scene and ordered the body of the deceased removed to Wilson Hospital for autopsy.

The four surviving occupants were transported to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Fareeha Nausheen was issued traffic tickets for moved from lane unsafely and failure to use child restraint seats for rear seat passengers, returnable in the Town of Windsor Court on Aug. 11, 2015.
