Depot Friday Night’s to feature The Swing Street Jazztet

July 17 will be the first appearance at the Depot in Newark Valley for The Swing Street Jazztet, under the direction of Al Hamme.  Hamme is Professor Emeritus at Binghamton University where he founded the jazz program and directed it for 33 years.

He has performed with the orchestras of Les Elgart, Sammy Kaye, Jimmy Dorsey, Guy Lombardo and others. He has recorded with Slam Stewart, Phil Woods, Steve Brown to name a few.

Hamme’s band, The Swing Street Jazztet, a quintet, will be playing a repertoire chosen from film scores from the 30’s, 40’s and early 50’s. The sounds of jazz have been missing from past Depot Friday Night Series events, but not this year!

On July 24 the Depot will see the return of “The Balladeer of the Southern Tier”, Pat Kane and West o’ Clare. Pat has been a favorite at the Depot for several years playing and singing traditional Irish toe tapping music.

On July 31 The Hats Off Band will return for the second year at the Depot. Band members Jack Burt, Nick Adams, Doug Trotter, and Lance Trotter play both classic and contemporary country music while adding their own special kick.

The Depot Doors open at 6 p.m. and the programs begin at 7 p.m. Admission is free and refreshments are available.

This project is made possible, in part, with public funds from the NYS Council on the Arts’ Decentralization Program, administered locally by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes.
