There is excitement happening next door to Original Italian Pizza and Restaurant, located at 23 Lake St. in Owego, N.Y. A community favorite for more than two decades, Original Italian Pizza and Restaurant offers guests a variety of pizza and multiple selections of Italian fare including pasta, salads, subs and seafood dishes.

In 2014, owners Mike and Rob Yammine added the Original’s name to a new event venue.

Adjacent to the well-known restaurant customers will find Original’s Bar and Lounge at 25 Lake St., offering the same popular menu, but in a new, relaxed atmosphere.  Everything about Original Italian remains the same, including the much talked about homemade bread. Catering and delivery is still available, as well as reservations for larger parties.

Through the double French white doors, Original’s Bar and Lounge is not only an extension to the existing restaurant, with a passageway to walk from one side to the other, it is a destination for local musicians to showcase their talents. With plenty of seating, guests can sit back and enjoy live music or other special events while enjoying served food fare and drinks.

Relocating here from New York City, Original’s Bar and Lounge Manager, Bradley Crews, likes the small-town, historic feel of Owego. A student of Julliard with a host of professional entertainment experience, Crews hopes to combine art, music and culture while also being community centered, so local residents and visitors alike will find the new Original’s Bar and Lounge an enjoyable place to spend an evening.

“I want to create exciting events with purpose that represent the community,” Crews said.

Original’s Bar and Lounge is pleased to feature four female artists on Friday, Jan. 30 at a show called “Ladies Choice” from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. There is no cover charge for the event.

Four talented female musicians/singers highlight the first two hours of the show, and then Original’s welcomes any other female artists to play during the open session starting at 9 p.m. Priority will be given to those who sign up, so interested individuals are asked to message Original’s on Facebook or call the restaurant at (607) 687-9510.

Ladies Choice, hosted by Voodoo Highway’s Dana Stewart, features live music by CC Ryder, Christian Abell, Brooke Albright and Kali Cornwell.

CC Ryder, originally from Waterloo, N.Y., plays various genres of music, including acoustic and folk. Now a solo vocalist/guitarist, CC has also performed and recorded with her previous band, Linear Eclipse. Fans can follow “CC Ryder” on Facebook.

Southern Tier native, Christian Abell, has performed both solo and in various bands and duos, and sidelines as a singing telegram. Incorporating tunes into her own acoustic guitar version, Abell shared that she will perform John Denver’s “Country Roads,” “Shot Gun Rider” by Tim McGraw and “Heart Shaped Box” by Nirvana, a few examples of her diverse musical scope. Fans can check out her music and one-of-a-kind mosaic artistry at Christianabell.com.

Apalachin’s Brooke Albright is a country music singer/songwriter who has performed at various Triple Cities events including Spiedie Fest and at Tioga Downs Casino, and has played at more famous venues like Nashville’s Blue Bird Café’. At the Jan. 30 show, Albright plans to play two original songs from her new album, which is due for release this spring. Fans may remember Albright as the runner-up in the 98.1 “The Hawk’s” Hit maker Challenge as well as a finalist in both the B.C. Teen Idol and EPAC Idol. You can follow her on Facebook, “Brooke Albright Music.”

Kali Cornwell, a singer known for her sultry voice and ukulele prowess, has performed at various Binghamton area establishments playing toe-tapping cover tunes from jazz, folk, pop and R&B. When the ukulele gets a rest, Kali is a busy student of both dance and theatre, studying locally at EPAC and A Leap of Faith Dance Academy.

A Dec. 19 show by the funk/jazz-n-groove-n-jam band, Ultra Vibe, was one of the most successful nights to date, so much so that Bradley Crews received an overwhelming amount of positive comments. Returning next month by popular demand, Ultra Vibe members Tom Westcott on bass, Mike Melnyk on keyboards and Steve Simmons on drums are booked to perform again on Friday, Feb. 27.

Local artists will have a new place to showcase their work inside Original’s. Newark Valley artist Robert Brown, a.k.a. Rob Boss, has his artwork featured through the end of January.

Rob’s creative talent gave Original’s its new mural logo on the wall opposite the bar, and several other pieces of Rob’s work is featured at the lounge entrance to browse or purchase. Looking forward to the year ahead, Rob is planning a mural project using public participation, and followers can find him at “RB Artistry” on Facebook.
